Greater Than Their Sum: The MAP Merger
After decades of pursuing a shared mission on parallel paths, the Council on Aging for Henderson County and MountainCare formally joined forces in 2025 — becoming Mountain Aging Partners (MAP).
This merger is more than an administrative change. It represents a commitment to doing more together for the aging adults, caregivers, and communities we serve in Henderson and Buncombe Counties.
Why the merger matters
- One agency, one call, one intake — improving access to services by reducing confusion and streamlining the client
experience.
- Shared operations and financial resources — enhancing sustainability and focusing more funding where it belongs: on programs and people.
- Unified advocacy — speaking with one voice to influence regional and state policy in support of aging services.
- Expanded program development — increasing capacity for innovation, growth, and new partnerships.
- Stronger fundraising and donor engagement — telling a more powerful impact story and demonstrating long-term viability to funders.
- Mission synergy — ensuring that the whole is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
"MAP is more than just a merger. It's a new model for collaboration and care in aging services. It's a statement that we can meet the future together, with strength and purpose."
